I'll also say they used to be great. NOT ANYMORE! A very large woman tried her hardest to not have to do any work. She was a total witch and gave me completely inaccurate information about the taxes due on my used vehicle purchase. She said I needed documents the Secretary of State website doesn't list. What's worse is this ignorant "courtesy" fee for using debit/credit card.
As for no quick trip the DMV, I used to live in Chicago. I walked in and out of that DMV in 5 minutes. Downtown. Multiple times. I don't mind having to wait, but I'm not gonna pretend there aren't DMVs where there isn't a wait in the middle of a business day when there are at least 4 people working and hardly anyone there. I even watched one woman on her cell phone at the counter while people were waiting. Even if she didn't have time to help, it was unprofessional and maybe she could have used that time to straighten papers.
If that isn't why she took 5 minutes to make sure a stack of papers were all the same direction while I was standing in front of her, didn't acknowledge me, didn't apologize for the wait, didn't say anything to me other than clipped necessary sentences, and didn't say anything when I left, just because, she is even worse at her job than I thought.
Friendly and helpful staff...I've had nothing but great experiences at this DMV. We have another DMV location in our neighboring town, but I actually drive the extra distance to Greenville, just because I'd rather deal with them.
Small office that isn't crazy busy. Staff has always been polite and helpful. There's no such thing as a quick trip to the DMV but I've had better luck with this office than other's. Driver's test was fairly easy, although if you're not used to driving in Greenville, some of the turns might surprise you.
Absolutely terrible experience; rather than testing my child for their first driver's license, they spent 45 mins trying to disqualify them from even *taking* the test. We eventually left, while they continued to make calls to try and garner support for their effort to discredit them. Incredibly rude and arrogant, singularly unhelpful people. This office is an example of the worst sort of self-important, dysfunctional bureaucracy that makes people hate government. If any normal DMV is routinely the butt of jokes, the Greenville IL DMV is a descent into new Kakfaesque levels of worthlessness, pitiful customer service and wasted customer time. Do whatever you can to avoid this place.
Simply put, these are the lowest form of life on the government employee food chain.
Had this woman stayed professional I would have left and not thought bad about this place except being told I didn't need cash and then after I waited, I did need cash. But instead she made something that wasn't about her at all, into something about her and made it even worse. As someone who worked in customer service, even if that made me mad, I would have at least tried to make it better for the customer, not worse. I wasn't rude to them. I had even mentioned how long it was taking me to get the title that day.
What she didn't know was I had walked 20 minutes to and from my dmv, waited 30 minutes to be told I didn't have something I didn't know I needed. I have back problems so that aggravated my back and caused me pain, but I didn't want to drive my car illegally. Well, so there's over an hour wasted. What I needed was at my uncle's house, an hour away. So I get there and decide I'll go to this DMV because they used to be good. It's 20 minutes away. So I wait, which is fine, but then I'm told I need to go get cash. Ok fine, but at this point something that should have taken 30 minutes has taken me hours and I'm still in pain. Not these people's fault. I never complained about them. Didn't complain at them. Was as pleasant as I knew how to be until I thought I was out of ear shot and said something about MY day, not this DMV.
This one used to be great. First, I waited quite awhile at this DMV then needed to go get cash, but that's another issue since I had already asked if I'd need cash, when I walked out the door, I vented my frustration at my situation and said why is this taking so f@@king long. I guess they heard me because when I came back the older woman was being a passive aggressive child and made me wait 5 minutes while she slowly sorted a stack of papers and put a rubber band on it. Then she was rude the rest of the time. No apology for making me wait, no acknowledgement. Because she decided to take something personally and not be a professional.
